Chief Executive Officer

As the Chief Executive Officer of Wunderman Thompson New York, Joe is responsible for the overall strategic vision, direction and growth of the agency, including overseeing all client relations, delivery, business and operations, and he leads the New York leadership team.

For almost three decades, Joe has been a world-class storyteller and strategic counselor, helping brands understand their customers and create new opportunities through digital- and user-centric design. Joe has diverse background—he studied anthropology on an academic level, worked for more than a decade as a high-profile journalist (he covered Bill Clinton’s first presidential campaign for Esquire) and has twenty years’ experience in the industry working in digital creative, strategy and innovation.

Prior to Wunderman Thompson, Joe was the Managing Director of POSSIBLE NY. Before that, he spent 17 years at Razorfish (now Publicis.Sapient), where he held multiple executive positions. In 2014, he founded the agency’s Product and Service Innovation Practice; comprised of designers, technologists, data analysts, brand planners and business strategists, this cross-disciplinary group harnessed new technologies to create rapid prototypes for breakthrough digital products, services and retail experiences. Prior to Razorfish, Joe was a Principal at Doblin Group, a pioneer in the field of design thinking, where he used the methods and tools of the social sciences to create market-leading innovations.

Over the years, Joe has helped some of the world’s greatest brands better serve their customers. His clients have included VW, HBO, Google, T-Mobile, Tommy Hilfiger, ConEd, Walmart, Microsoft, Citibank, Samsung, Nike, Red Bull, Balenciaga, Mercedes-Benz, Motorola, the TED Conference, Hulu and Disney. 

Joe is a sought-after keynote speaker at conferences and events, from TED to Cannes, and sits on multiple boards and juries in the world of entertainment, marketing and design. In 2006, he was inducted into the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences and sits on its Executive Committee.

Joe holds a BA from Washington University and an MSJ from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. Originally from Arkansas, he currently lives in Tribeca with his partner, Ben Kalb, and dog, Omar. When Joe isn’t at the office, you can find him at his side hustle, Koneko Cat Cafe, where he literally herds cats.
